Job Summary

The Project Manager ( Foundational Learning) will provide end-to-end leadership for assigned education and foundational learning projects within IMPLEMENTERS’ Programs Department, initially leading the implementation of MindTales, an emerging foundational learning initiative being developed in collaboration with relevant education-sector institutions and technical partners. The role will translate approved programme designs into high-quality implementation, coordinate schools, partners, technical teams, and other stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered effectively within agreed scope, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

The Project Manager will lead project planning, resource and budget management, risk management, stakeholder coordination, monitoring, reporting, and quality assurance, while working closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to generate evidence, strengthen learning outcomes, and support continuous improvement. As IMPLEMENTERS’ foundational learning portfolio grows, the role will contribute to the delivery of other education initiatives aligned with the organisation’s strategic priorities, ensuring that programmes remain context-responsive, evidence-informed, and focused on improving learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Portfolio Coordination
  • Lead and coordinate the planning and execution of MindTales and other assigned education and foundational learning projects, including work plans, budgets, schedules, resource requirements, and delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate the full programme delivery cycle, ensuring effective planning, stakeholder coordination, implementation, monitoring, and programme close-out.
  • Coordinate with relevant education authorities, technical partners, and stakeholders to ensure programme activities meet agreed technical and quality standards.
  • Plan and coordinate relevant training and capacity-building activities required for effective programme delivery.
Project Implementation, Stakeholder & Resource Management
  • Lead and coordinate field implementation across participating schools and communities, working with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely and quality programme delivery.
  • Work closely with the MEAL team to support programme monitoring, beneficiary tracking, assessments, data quality and programme learning in line with approved results frameworks.
  • Manage project budgets and resources, track expenditure, forecast requirements and coordinate with Finance and Procurement to address variances and delivery needs.
  • Maintain and actively manage project risks, issues, stakeholders and key decisions; escalate material risks and ensure agreed mitigation actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate partner engagements, programme visits, workshops and other implementation activities, ensuring decisions and agreed actions are documented and followed through.
Monitoring, Reporting, Quality & Compliance
  • Prepare timely and accurate programme reports, presentations, briefs and implementation updates for management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the documentation of programme results and lessons, working with the MEAL team and other relevant functions to support programme improvement and reporting.
  • Work with relevant communications colleagues to support responsible documentation and communication of verified programme results and beneficiary experiences.
  • Maintain complete and current project documentation, records and required organizational system updates in line with IMPLEMENTERS’ project-management and records-management requirements.
  • Ensure programme activities comply with partner/funder agreements, safeguarding and child protection requirements, organizational policies, data-protection standards and applicable education-sector requirements.
Project Leadership & Internal Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary focal person for the day-to-day management and coordination of assigned education and foundational learning projects, with accountability for delivery against agreed scope, timelines, budget and quality standards.
  • Coordinate consultants, facilitators, vendors, volunteers and partner personnel engaged to support programme delivery.
  • Work collaboratively across Programs, Communications & Engagement, Finance and Procurement departments to coordinate inputs required for effective programme delivery.
  • Use programme evidence, lessons and stakeholder feedback to support continuous improvement across assigned projects.
  • Undertake other education and foundational learning responsibilities assigned by the Programs Manager
  • Perform other related duties and special assignments as directed by the Programs Manager.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development Studies, International Development, Project Management, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
  • Professional certification in Project Management, such as PMP, or an equivalent recognised certification.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive experience in project or programme management, preferably within education, foundational learning, literacy, teacher development, digital learning, or social-impact programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder projects, including budgets, field implementation, reporting, risk management, and partner or funder requirements.
  • Experience working with schools, teachers, education authorities, and technical partners is strongly preferred. Experience taking pilot education initiatives through implementation and scale is an added advantage.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Workspace, online meetings, and digital collaboration tools.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, stakeholder management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to implementation challenges.
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours where required to support project implementation.
